We enjoyed a fantastic summer outreach program organized by the Pine Manor Institute, aimed at engaging kids from minority backgrounds. During our session, participants had the opportunity to learn about machine learning (ML) concepts and basic working principles, with a particular focus on neural networks. The teachings were conducted by graduate students Anna Gerosolina and Elijah Begin. It was a wonderful afternoon where the kids got to experience state-of-the-art ML algorithms by playing pedagogical games such as Pokemon Go, rock-paper-scissors, and voice control of alien-walking games.
Anna is teaching kids about the working principles of neural networks using puppies and kitties as an example.
